6 Self-Care and Skincare Tips to follow at home

Recommendations from our founder.

There is no denying that having to spend more time at home has changed our day-to-day lives very rapidly. Most of us have switched from our traditional work, school and extracurricular routines and are self-isolated instead – a huge adjustment for anyone to come to terms with!

However, there is a silver lining to every situation, and in this case, self-isolation has created an opportunity for self-care, to better care for our bodies, skins, and minds. Now that you are at home, it’s the perfect time to start paying more attention to your self-care and skincare regimes, particularly if you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

Anxiety, sleepless nights and stress-eating can all wreak havoc on the health of your skin and your body, which is why it is so crucial to get a good routine in place to look after yourself during this time. Here are some of my favourite self-care and skincare tips to get you started, all of which are inspired by my own self love routine!

Tip #1: Stay Hydrated

As always, staying hydrated is essential for your overall health, and also for the health of your skin. Dehydration can have significant effects on your body, and may even leave it more susceptible to infection. I recommend drinking warm water with fresh lemon and ginger sliced into it to keep your body well hydrated and add extra antioxidants to your diet.

Both lemon and ginger have potent cleansing properties, and also contain numerous antioxidants and compounds like gingerol, vitamin C and limonene that assist your body in healing itself. They also offer incredible antimicrobial properties to assist your body in fighting off pathogens. Better yet, rehydrating regularly will help to curb stress-eating impulses that may be triggered by anxiety or boredom during self-isolation.

Tip #2: Prioritize Exercise

Exercise is very important at this time for a number of reasons. It improves your mental health, your physical resilience and your immune response, while also preventing you from becoming sedentary and providing endorphins to keep you feeling uplifted.

Physical movement is also a great natural treatment for anxiety and depression! My exercise regime involves simple exercises that can be done at home, such as doing planks, crunches, squats, and also stretching. Even if you only spend 15 minutes a day exercising, that will be enough to provide you with significant health benefits!

Tip #3: Care for Your Body

Taking a shower every day is a simple self-care tip that could make a big difference to your mental state these days, it makes you feel more relaxed and boosts your energy levels.

After your shower, leave your facial and body skin damp before applying your favorite skincare products. That moist on your skin allows your skin to better absorb the products you put on it, thereby making them more effective.

If you apply body oils on your skin as well, as I do, I highly recommend that you apply these after the moisturizers as they typically seal the pores and prevent other products from soaking in. Also, oils are best used at night after you have moisturized your face and body, as they lock in moisture, promote healing and skin regeneration while you sleep.

Following a skincare routine gives you a feeling of purpose, satisfaction, and optimism.

Tip #4: Exfoliate

Don’t let your skin suffer because of indoor air-conditioning, dim lighting or even the emotional stress we are going through. You can keep your skin healthy and glowing by exfoliating your face and body twice a week.

Gentle exfoliation removes dead skin cells while also stimulating the growth of new ones, and the act of exfoliation helps de-stress your mind and skin.

Tip #5: Meditate Regularly

Meditation is an ancient practice that has been proven both by history and science to promote relaxation, calmness, and inner peace. This practice is essential for the health of your body, your skin, and most importantly your mind.

Whenever you feel anxious or overwhelmed, dedicate half an hour to quiet meditation in a place you are most comfortable. The results will definitely be worth your time.

Tip #6: Organize Yourself and Your Routine

If you are feeling a need to reduce stress in your life, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to develop and maintain a daily routine. Routine and organization go hand in hand, so organizing your tasks using an agenda could help to reduce feelings of overwhelm during challenging times.

Once your tasks are complete, you should also mark them off on your agenda, which will help you to develop a sense of achievement as you look back on what you have done.

No Better Time to Love Yourself

There is no wrong time to start taking great care of your body, your skin, and your mind – but now is a particularly good time to consider it! There is no better remedy for stress and anxiety than self-care, and your skin will thank you for it too.

I hope that you will be inspired to pamper yourself and to follow a self-care routine.
